Sturnella bellicosa continues expanding its range in Colombia
Sturnella bellicosa continues expanding its range in Colombia
Keywords:
Sturnella bellicosa, distribution, range extension, ColombiaAbstract
Sturnella bellicosa inhabits open areas of the Pacific slope of South America, and its presence in Colombia was recently confirmed in SW Nariño. However, overlooked specimens suggest that this species was already there by the middle of the twentieth century. In April, 2004 we observed and photographed S. bellicosa in Parque Nacional Natural Sanquianga, 110 km NE of the first records. We present reasons for considering this to be a recent range expansion. This and other species of open areas could have been favored by deforestation in the Chocó region.
