We report the discovery of the first breeding colony of Military Macaw (Ara militaris) in Ecuador. Globally, the species is considered vulnerable, and in Ecuador it is currently classified as endangered. The colony was found occupying a rocky cliff, in which three pairs were defending existing cavities and ten additional individuals were exploring additional cavities. We provide a brief description of the cliff and the adjacent vegetation, as well as some historical information provided by local inhabitants of the area.
