The Amazonian foothills concentrate some of the lesser-known bird species in Colombia, one of which is the Coppery-chested Jacamar (Galbula pastazae). Within the genus Galbula, it is the species that most rises in the altitudinal domain, and categorized as vulnerable. Most of its distribution is located east of the Ecuadorean Andes and has information gaps in Colombia. In this manuscript, we present new records and information on the natural history, including reproductive biology, of G. pastazae in the departments of Putumayo and Caquetá, Colombia. In Putumayo, individuals have been recorded continuously, including nesting, in the rural area of the municipality of Mocoa. The ornithological collection of the Alexander von Humboldt Institute houses the only specimen in a Colombian collection for this species to date, collected in San José de Fragua, Caquetá. During the records, morphological measurements of two adult individuals and new information on the natural history of the species were obtained, including nesting seasons, nest size and description of nests (n=6). Our records of the foothills of Putumayo and Caquetá not only provide new information about the species but also increase the interest in the knowledge of the avifauna of this region of the country and raise the need to continue studying the biodiversity of this neotropical region.
