Ampliación del ámbito de distribución del Loro orejiamarillo (Ognorhynchus icterotis) en el municipio de Miraflores al sur oriente de Boyacá

Abstract

The Yellow-eared Parrot (Ognorhynchus icterotis), is a near endemic species and in danger of extinction (EN) for Colombia, mainly because of the affectation of its ecosystems, due to the high demand for wax palm (Ceroxylon quindiuense), which has generated a considerable decrease in its populations. However, in recent years more populations of Yellow-eared Parrot have been reported in the country. The present report is in accordance with this trend and reports the same finding, since in 2022 the species was reported on four occasions a first group on April 15 with 31 individuals, a second group on June 30 with 53 individuals and a third group on August 13 with 10 individuals and a fourth group with two nesting pairs, this being the first record for Boyacá. It was observed that the species uses as a food resource the plant Ficus cf. insipida or milky fig tree. However, the observation of nesting was reported in a palm trunk, which implies a contribution to the knowledge of the distribution of the species, and also suggests a mobility between corridors and forest relicts, which favors its dispersal.
