Abstract

I present the first records of the Fiery-capped Manakin (Machaeropterus pyrocephalus) in Colombia based on one observation and three individuals collected in April 2022 in El Encanto municipality, department of Amazonas on the banks of the Putumayo River on the border with Peru. This species inhabits a large part of the Amazon basin with populations mainly in Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru, it has also been reported in Venezuela. The distribution of the species is wide and best known in the southern area, while the records in the northern Amazon are few and scattered. The vocalizations are subtle, and the females and immatures in the genus are quite similar. Thus, we highlight aspects of their differentiation and identification in the field that allow their presence to be recorded in new localities.
