We present information on the diet of the Black-and-white Owl (Strix nigrolineata) based on 9.3 g of disaggregated pellets, collected in the Machalilla National Park, western Ecuador. We found two mammal species with arboreal and terrestrial habits as prey. An opossum (Didelphidae): Marmosa simonsi and a native rodent (Cricetidae): Aegialomys xanthaeolus. These prey items are novel for this owl, which has previously been documented to prefer bats. Additionally, we report an electrocuted individual, who was probably searching for insects that are attracted by public lighting.
