Abstract

The Black Tinamou Tinamus osgoodi is known in Colombia only from the southwest of the country, in the Andean-Amazonian foothills. It is a diurnal species, apparently rare, and is considered threatened in the Vulnerable category. Here we document the diurnal activity pattern and an estimate of the encounter rate through information collected by camera traps between April and July 2021 in the municipality of San Vicente del Caguán, Department of Caquetá, Colombia. This locality represents a 130 km northward expansion of its previously known distribution, and appears to support a sparse population with individuals displaying low-intensity behavior, possibly because the trapping period coincided with the peak of the rainy season in the foothills.
