Abstract

I document the first records of the Rufous-throated Antbird Gymnopithys rufigula (Thamnophilidae) in Colombia, with the observation, capture and collection of two individuals in the Atabapo river basin, Guainía, near the border with Venezuela, in addition to making recordings of their vocalizations. The species is confined to the Guiana Shield, northeast of Amazonia. I describe the record locality, the habitat, and with photos show how to distinguish it from its closest relative, G. leucaspis. This report represents a new locality in the west of its distribution in an area dominated by white sand ecosystems that have yet been little sampled in Colombia.
