Abstract

We present the first documented breeding event of the Andean Potoo (Nyctibius maculosus) in central Colombia, recorded in 2016 on the western slope of the Eastern Cordillera (Guasca, Cundinamarca). This event took place in a locality where the species had been recorded for the first time in 2015, which also represented the first record for this region of the country. Based on occasional observations, we describe aspects of chick development and parental care. Additionally, we reviewed subsequent records available on online platforms, highlighting the importance of this new locality for the population of N. maculosus, as well as the conservation and research needs of this rare species.
