Abstract

We document the first known case of a Tropical Parula (Setophaga pitiayumi) becoming entangled in the web of a Golden Silk Orb-weaver (Trichonephila clavipes) the 27th of October 2023, in an urbanized sector of the El Cielo Biosphere Reserve, Tamaulipas, México. This constitutes the fourth published record of a bird trapped in a spider web in Mexico and the second involving a warbler. The individual was found dead, with no evidence of predation. This observation emphasizes the importance of recognizing incidental bird–spider interactions as potentially relevant ecological events, particularly in human-modified environments.
