Abstract

I present a detailed nest description and the first egg description for the Black-billed Peppershrike (Cyclarhis nigrirostris) based on observations made in 2008 in the Valle de Aburrá, Antioquia, Colombia. The nest was a thin-walled, high cup attached to a branch fork, similar to that reported for Cyclarhis gujanensis and other vireonids. The eggs were white, with brown blotches and dots concentrated around the blunt end. These observations provide evidence for the inclusion of the genus Cyclarhis in the family Vireonidae and not in its own family Cyclarhidae as suggested by some authors.
