In this short communication we make two rectifications to the Red Book of Birds of Colombia, volume II (Renjifo et al. 2016), which do not modify the total number of threatened birds in Colombia, but adjust its composition. These rectifications have different causes: one due to a mistake made in good faith and the other due to knowledge improvement. These changes involve two hummingbird species: Perijá Metaltail (Metallura iracunda) and Bogota Sunangel (Heliangelus zusii). The category of M. iracunda is modified after we detected a mistake made by the authors in the conclusion of the risk assessment. It was listed as Near threatened (NT) instead of Vulnerable (VU). On the other hand, H. zusii is no longer a valid species since the year 2017. For this reason, it should be removed from the list and its category changes from Critically Endangered- Possibly Extinct (CR-PE) to Not recognized (NR). Recognizing a mistake made in good faith improves transparency in the scientific labor, whereas rectifying a risk assessment category due to improvement in knowledge allows to better guide conservation efforts.
