Abstract

The Chestnut-bellied Cotinga (Doliornis remseni) is a bird species of the Cotingidae family that inhabits the high elevations in the Central Andes of Colombia and Ecuador with very few records since its description in 1994. Only two papers have been published for Colombia describing its locations, firstly in Quindío and secondly in Putumayo. After 33 years without being registered in Quindío, we present a new locality where we obtained two new records in the El Campanario paramo, between Quindío and Tolima. Furthermore, we compare our observations with the descriptions of its behavior and natural history from other studies, looking for a better understanding of the species’ ecology and providing information that may contribute to future studies. Finally, we discuss some aspects regarding their low detectability and factors that promote their high vulnerability.
