We present the first detailed description of the nest of the Variegated Bristle-Tyrant (Pogonotriccus poecilotis). The globular nest was hanging, attached to a thin root below a roof made of tree roots at the top of a bank, creating the image of a cave. The nest was principally composed of Spirotheca sp. (Bombacaceae) seed floss. We also describe the two nestlings from the nest and compare this nest with those of the three most closely related genera (Phylloscartes, Leptopogon and Mionectes).
